Le Clos d'Audio is a bed and breakfast located in Riols, a village in the Jaur Valley within the Haut Languedoc Regional Natural Park. Gaëlle Poirion has been welcoming guests since 2013 in a former winemaker's house dating back to 1664, fully renovated and tucked away at the end of a quiet street in the village, less than ten minutes from Saint Pons de Thomières. Open year round, it is equally suited to an overnight stop or a longer stay exploring the Espinouse, the Caroux and the Montagne Noire. ACCOMMODATION Four rooms and one suite are spread across the first and second floors of the house. The rooms accommodate between one and three guests and feature queen size beds measuring 160 cm and a private shower room. La Libellule and Le Milan Noir have private toilets, while La Fougère and La Drosera share a toilet. An extra bed can be added to any of the rooms. La Libellule, located on the second floor, faces east with views over the Jaur Valley, the Roque rock face and the Caroux. The Les Capitelles suite consists of two rooms and can accommodate five to six guests, with a shared shower room and toilet. The house is strictly non smoking, and pets must be declared before booking. Check in is between 5 PM and 8 PM, with check out before 10:30 AM. Late arrivals must be arranged in advance. A 30% deposit is required to secure the reservation, with the remaining balance payable on the morning of departure by cash, bank transfer, credit card or check. DINING Breakfast is included with every stay and is served from 7:30 to 9:30 AM in the dining room or on the terrace. Both sweet and savory options are available, including fresh bread and pastries from the local bakery, Haut Languedoc honey and jams, seasonal fruit and homemade yogurt. For late arrivals, a light meal can be served in the room and breakfast times can be adjusted accordingly. In the evening, Gaëlle offers a table d'hôtes exclusively for guests staying at the property. Everyone gathers around the same table for a starter, main course and dessert served at 7:30 PM. Meals are prepared using fresh and mostly local ingredients, with local appellation wines available as an option. Dinner must be booked 48 hours in advance and dietary requirements can be accommodated. Picnic baskets can also be prepared with 48 hours' notice. Riols does not have a restaurant, but the village has both a bakery and a butcher shop. BIKER WELCOME The house is located at the end of a quiet street and has a large private, enclosed and secured parking area with easy access directly on the property. Parking is free for guests and can accommodate more than ten motorcycles. A covered shelter is also available for motorcycles and bicycles. ROADS & SCENERY Riols lies in the Jaur Valley, between the Somail and Espinouse hills to the north and the Montagne Noire to the west. From the village, the D57 climbs for around ten kilometers toward the Col du Cabarétou at 941 meters, passing through the Somail national forest. From the pass, the D907 descends toward La Salvetat sur Agout, with Lac de Vésoles nearby and Lac de la Raviège further along. Returning toward Saint Pons de Thomières creates an enjoyable shorter loop. Heading east, the road through the Jaur Valley follows the river through Olargues and Mons la Trivalle, beneath the cliffs of the Caroux, before reaching the Orb around Colombières sur Orb, Lamalou les Bains and Bédarieux. Further northeast, the Col de Fontfroide at 973 meters can be incorporated into a loop from either Saint Pons or Lamalou, crossing the open landscapes of the Espinouse. To the west, the road toward Mazamet follows the Montagne Noire, whose highest point, the Pic de Nore, can be reached by road. Heading south into the Minervois and Saint Chinian area brings a complete change of scenery, with garrigue, vineyards and more open roads. A trained sommelier and former president of the Minervois au Caroux tourist office, your host knows the region and its wine estates extremely well.
