Description
Hôtel U Palazzu & Spa is a charming 3-star hotel tucked away in the village of Venaco, in Haute-Corse, right on the island's central axis between Bastia and Ajaccio and just a short ride from Corte. With ten rooms and open year-round, it sits deep in the Corsican mountains and works equally well as a stopover on a north-south journey or as a base for exploring the island over several days. ACCOMMODATION The ten rooms are divided into three categories: standard double, superior double and quadruple. They are spread across several floors and there is no elevator, so guests need to carry their luggage upstairs. The rooms are not wheelchair accessible. DINING Breakfast is served as a continental buffet from 7:30 to 10:00 AM, either on the terrace or in the lounge depending on the weather. Throughout the day, the hotel serves artisan charcuterie and cheese boards featuring local Corsican products, which can be enjoyed with a Corsican wine or a craft beer. The bar is open from 5:00 to 9:30 PM. Packed sandwiches can also be prepared on request for the road. WELLNESS The wellness area includes a jacuzzi heated to 37°C and a hammam. It can be booked privately, either for one person or for two, in 50-minute sessions. BIKER WELCOME Motorcycles can be stored in a secure closed garage with direct access from the hotel. It can accommodate five bikes or more. ROADS & SCENERY Venaco sits directly on the T20, the former N193, which links Bastia to Ajaccio through the heart of the island. Heading south, the road passes through the Vecchio gorges before climbing toward Vivario, the Vizzavona forest and the Col de Vizzavona. From Vivario, the D69 climbs toward the Col de Sorba before descending to Ghisoni. From there, riders can either continue through the Défilé de l'Inzecca toward the eastern plain or take the Col de Verde toward the southern part of the island. Heading north, Corte provides access to the Restonica valley and its mountain lakes. Further on, the Scala di Santa Regina leads into the Niolu and toward Lac de Calacuccia, before climbing to the Col de Vergio, Corsica's highest paved mountain pass, and descending through Évisa and the Spelunca gorges. The Col de Verde and Col de Vergio can be affected by snow during part of the winter. Closer to the hotel, the Verghellu valley and the Cascade des Anglais in the Vizzavona forest are ideal destinations for shorter rides.
