Isabelle Giroux hosts motorcyclists at La Chapelle d'Abondance. Together with Ben Draou, she also organizes motorcycle trips to Morocco, in groups of six, with custom-built itineraries. A portrait of a project put together by two passionate riders, and the questions to ask them before you go.
On Bivo Moto, we list motorcycle-friendly accommodations with serious bike parking. Behind every listing there's a person, and sometimes that person has a second project that's well worth knowing about.
Isabelle runs Le Flocon Blanc, a chalet in La Chapelle d'Abondance, in the Haute-Savoie. Locked parking, two motorcycle spots, free of charge, a stone's throw from the Portes du Soleil. Just another listing on the site, until you find out what she does the rest of the year. Together with Ben, she organizes motorcycle trips to Morocco. It's called Drive Your Own Adventure, based out of Nice, and it doesn't feel anything like a packaged tour.

Six bikes, not one more
It's the first thing they lead with, and it changes everything. Groups are capped at six bikes. No twenty-machine convoy to wrangle. Six riders, a shared pace that can actually be adjusted, and evenings where everyone gets to talk. In practice, that's what makes the custom approach work: at six, you can change plans on the fly.
Your bike or theirs
Two options.
You ride your own machine, the one where you know the braking by heart and how the seat feels after six hours in the saddle. In that case, they pick you up when you step off the ferry in TANGIER.
Or you ride one of theirs, mostly Royal Enfield Himalayan 411s but also Yamaha XTR 660s and Honda Transalp 700s. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 is a simple, not particularly powerful but very torquey trail bike. It's built for dirt tracks and mountain passes rather than highways. In that case, they pick you up at the arrival airport, either RABAT, MARRAKECH, or FEZ, depending on the trip.
A route that doesn't exist until you do
Their promise comes down to one thing: no off-the-shelf circuit. The route is built with you. They say they welcome both beginners and experienced riders, which only makes sense because the group is small and the itinerary is flexible.
Trips run from one week up to twelve days. The starting point they mention is the Middle Atlas, heading down toward the gateway to the desert, through areas they describe as well off the beaten track. But the starting point can also be somewhere else, like Marrakech.
Where you sleep matters as much as the road
The choice of accommodation, a charming Riad or a stay with Berber families will depend on the itinerary. We combine both styles on a single trip.
The Riad wins you over with its comfort and calm, while staying with the Berbers promises warm encounters and a sense of togetherness that's hard to match. For a platform that talks about accommodation year-round, this is the detail that really caught our eye in the best possible way.
Very few organizers treat the sleeping side of things as part of the journey rather than just a logistics checkbox.
The Morocco they describe
Let's be straight about it: we haven't ridden with them. What follows is their promise, not our firsthand account. They talk about the oases of the great Sahara and the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas, the wild Atlantic beaches and the medinas. Mint tea shared around a fire, the souks. Mountain roads that twist and wind, and desert stretches where the horizon doesn't move for hours. It's the language of motorcycle travel in Morocco : you'll read it elsewhere too.
What kept our attention here is the size of the group and the fact that there's a host in the team.

Why we're talking about it here
Because this is exactly the kind of thing we love discovering behind a listing. Isabelle hosts riders in Haute-Savoie and takes riders to Morocco. It's the same passion on both sides.
If you're passing through the Chablais, her chalet is listed with us, complete with the locked parking that comes with it. And if you're a host on Bivo Moto running a project like this on the side, drop us a line. That's exactly what this section is here for.
