Brittany by Motorcycle

Between rugged coastlines, rolling moorlands, dramatic peninsulas and legendary forests, Brittany offers one of France's most rewarding motorcycle destinations. Often overlooked by riders heading further south, the region reveals an incredible diversity of landscapes within a relatively compact area. Every ride alternates between scenic coastal roads overlooking the Atlantic, quiet country lanes winding through the Argoat and charming granite villages set among striking rocky landscapes. Riders love Brittany for the character of its roads and the sheer density of its landscapes. In just a few hours of riding, you can trace the wild Finistère coastline, cross the Menez-Hom moorlands, skirt the Brest roadstead or push deep into the forests of Brocéliande. Major trunk roads are few and far between, and the real pleasure lies on the small departmental roads connecting fishing ports, headlands and villages. With four departments each boasting their own distinct atmosphere, Brittany is perfectly suited to a week-long grand tour, hugging the coasts and cutting through the interior. To plan your overnight stops, Bivo makes it easy to find biker-friendly accommodation with secure motorcycle parking, so you can focus on making the most of the region's roads and landscapes.

Côtes-d'Armor

The Pink Granite Coast between Perros Guirec and Trébeurden is one of the most breathtaking stretches of coastline in France. The scenic roads that follow the shoreline reveal spectacular views of pink granite rock formations, secluded coves and the ever changing waters of the English Channel. Away from the coast, the landscapes become quieter and more rural. The roads crossing the Monts d'Arrée to the west and the Mené hills to the east offer peaceful riding through forests, moorlands and traditional Breton countryside. Combining dramatic coastal scenery with authentic inland routes, Côtes d'Armor is a destination well worth exploring beyond a simple stop along the way.

Finistère

The far end of Brittany, and the wildest department in the region. The Crozon Peninsula, Pointe du Raz, Cap Sizun and the Menez-Hom roads deliver landscapes of breathtaking beauty, with the Atlantic as a constant backdrop. Brest is a handy logistical base, but it's on the small roads through Cornouaille and the Bigouden country that Finistère's true character reveals itself. An absolute must for any rider passing through Brittany.

Ille-et-Vilaine

As the gateway to Brittany from Paris and northern France, Ille et Vilaine is a convenient starting point or final stop on a Breton motorcycle tour. Rennes makes a practical base, with easy access to a surprisingly varied range of routes and landscapes. To the north, the Emerald Coast between Saint Malo and Cap Fréhel offers beautiful seaside roads, while Mont Saint Michel and the Vilaine valley provide rewarding rides towards the interior. With castles, medieval towns and the Mont Saint Michel abbey all within easy riding distance, the department combines practical access, rich heritage and scenic variety.

Morbihan

Morbihan is the mildest department in Brittany and one of its most diverse motorcycle destinations. The Gulf of Morbihan, the Quiberon Peninsula, Belle Île by ferry and the Carnac alignments create an itinerary full of contrasts between sea, islands, ancient sites and coastal roads. Inland, the Brocéliande forest and the Lanvaux moorlands reveal a completely different side of the department, quieter, more mysterious and far less crowded than the coastline.
